Mary Ellen (“Mek”) is responsible for reviewing and submitting proposals and negotiating research agreements for the Computing Sciences, Energy Sciences, Earth and Environmental Sciences, and Physical Sciences Areas. She also handles the proposals and funding agreements for the following sponsors for all Areas: Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA); and U.S. Department of Homeland Security, which includes the Countering Weapons of Mass Destruction (CWMD) office (formerly the Domestic Nuclear Detection Office (DNDO)).
Previously, Mek worked on sponsored-research contracts at the University of California, Davis where she submitted proposals and processed, drafted, and negotiated research agreements with federal, state, nonprofit and private industry sponsors and subcontractors. Mek has been with UC for more than 25 years, including her service at the University of California San Francisco, and has over 20 years of experience in sponsored research. She joined Berkeley Lab in December 2015.
